African American Heritage Society

November 8, 2007

Dear Potential Society Member,

The African American Heritage Society is beginning its 2007-2008 membership campaign.  We would like to encourage members of the local community to participate in our programs for the upcoming year.  In 2007, the Society celebrated 17 years of promoting, preserving, perpetuating and integrating African American heritage and culture in Northwest Florida.  In September we hosted our 3rd Annual Heritage Awards, celebrating the contributions of various community leaders to the heritage of Pensacola.  Your support will help the Society to initiate upcoming special events and programs across the City of Pensacola, Escambia County and the Northwest Florida Region.

This year the African American Heritage Society is offering such signature programs as:

  • Sponsorship of the Pensacola International Film Festival presentation of Silver Wings & Civil Rights: The Fight to Fly, the story of the Tuskegee Airmen.
  • An Exhibition of the Photographs of P. H. Polk, photographer for Tuskegee University for over 50 years.
  • A dramatic representation of Zora Neale Hurston, a renowned author, folklorist and important figure in African American history.
  • All That Chocolate All That Jazz, the Society’s annual fundraiser and other events throughout the year.

As a new member of the African American Heritage Society, you will receive special invitations to private showings, discounted prices to upcoming events and programs, as well as opportunities to become an integral part of efforts to celebrate African American heritage and culture in Northwest Florida.  For more information about benefits of membership and levels of support please review our brochure

Please note that new members at the Patron level and above receive a complimentary copy of our Images in Black:A Pictorial History of Pensacola, vol. ITo apply for membership please download and print the membership form.  You may return the form to our offices at 200 E. Church Street, Pensacola, FL 32502.

If you would like to contact us, please call anytime at (850) 469-1299.  In the meantime, please consider supporting the Heritage Society as we offer diverse programming and celebrate the contributions of African American heritage through the arts, education and cultural heritage!

Sincerely,

James M. James
